The Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) is urging the industry to act on reducing the stigma of mental health

The Electrical Industries Charity (EIC) is urging the industry to act on reducing the stigma of mental health and encourages electricians to give a shoulder to lean on to thousands of industry colleagues by taking part in powerLottery.

The stigma of mental health is a serious issue in the electrical sector. In this year alone, over 400 people in the electrical sector attempted to commit suicide, and some of them succeeded.

There are a number of different triggers such as alcohol misuse, bereavement, or social isolation and loneliness that can often contribute to the deterioration of mental health which if not treated in time can have devastating outcomes.

For the EIC your mental health and wellbeing is extremely important, and this is why the Charity offers people in the industry free access to the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which provides a wide range of confidential support services and it is directly funded by powerLottery.

One in 3 applications submitted to EIC cited mental health issues as their primary reason for contacting the Charity for support. This highlights that early intervention is critical in helping to stop mental health from deteriorating, but we all need to be part of it.

You can show your support by signing up to play EIC powerLottery for as little as £1 per month and help the EIC to reach people who are struggling before they reach crisis point while being in with a chance to win up to 15 cash prizes of up to £1,000 each month. Or you can be part of the revolution challenging the stigma of mental health by registering for the EIC’s Mental Health Awareness Training course.

We all need somebody to lean on at the toughest times of our lives. Don’t turn a blind eye on your colleague in need - sign up to powerLottery today and help to end the stigma of mental health.
